Dream germinate pt. 1

I have been MIA for a little while. Not that I don’t have access to my blog but my energies have been wholly invested in a new project. My dream is coming true, but the most amazing part about the whole thing is that it’s been for the taking, under my nose the whole time! So here is what i’m up to. My grandmother is letting me garden a huge plot of her land next to her house. In some way I have always known how fertile the land is in the area which is actually my birthplace. Now that I have the desire to grow food, I understand and appreciate the rich subtropical environment that manifested this thing we call me. Black gold is how I would describe it! Moist nutrient dense soil covered in lovely mineral fixing grasses and moisture locking moss. I’m stoked about what’s going to burst up out of the landscape so I have to restrain myself until the last frost. But this provides a space to set up the framework, work out design and then start stocking what I will be planting. Anyway, here are some photos of my land…

CompostI’m super proud of myself for building this compost bin. It’s filled with beautiful organic matter and helpful bacteria working to be ready for spring.💪💪

Ground coverGround cover. Densely packed grasses and moisture locking moss, transporting nutrients and aerating the soil.💛

My pecan treeThis pecan tree lives on the border of the empty plot and the land my granny’s house is on. I’m really looking forward to seeing what this antique beauty does later in the year. The two on the property have not produced nuts in a couple years which is natural for them so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for 2014. 🌟🌟🙌

VinesVine like trees at the back of the property. This area will be a great shady spot in the warmer months for shade loving plants and to sit and take it all in.❤

Vines2The later generation of this unidentified tree type and even more lush ground cover. As you can see on the right this spot gets even more carbon rich organic matter than the rest of the land.💚
